Like a daydreaming teenager listening to music and doodling his way to salvation, I am creating a pictorial universe characterized by a pronounced sense of the absurd. Through combining abstraction with representation and text, I compose half-witted sentences that stylistically resemble a comic strip gone wild. As if regurgitating an adolescent impulse toward the sexual, the grotesque, the humorous, and the obscene; this overwhelmingly male, nude, and chaotic universe is inhabited by dysfunctional hybrid creatures. Seemingly random and not easily deciphered, I use a narrative tactic that collapses on itself by abandoning logical rules. There is oftentimes no particular story to be read and no all-encompassing image to be seen. Believing that failure and success are closely related, I embrace an approach to making where bad decisions regarding formal elements and design principles are purposefully made. This strategy creates a studio environment where I am constantly challenged to react to each drawing as it unfolds. Often the initial idea is completely lost or swallowed by another image.
